New Precuts in at the Quilting Frame!
Hello All:
Well....we are two days away from our last hurrah of Summer.....it seems like this summer passed in the blink of an eye....however, with the extremely hot weather we have had of late, I am sincerely looking forward to the Fall.....
We received our new precuts in last weekend....Autumn Lily from Blackbird Designs. This line is a beautiful floral for which Blackbird Design is known so well in muted reds, old rose, sage greens, soft French country blues, milk chocolate and creams....gorgeous to the last piece! We are working on a display piece for the shop.....maybe over this long Holiday weekend we can get it finished.
Also, we have received the bolts in for the Lexington Line by Minck & Simpson....
The top one is a beautiful paisley and floral print on a cream background. The second is a blue diamond on a medium tan background and we also chose a simple light cream background with medium blue stars.
We have marked a few bolts and precuts from Moda down 20% to make room for the other precuts we have coming in over the next 6-8 weeks....we have two layer cakes and three charm packs of the Soho Chic line by Sandy Gervais as well as two bolts which are also marked down 20% off....
Alright, I wanted everyone to see the new line we have in called "Sewing Box" by Gina Martin for Moda....if you have friends who are also sewing or quilting enthusiasts, then this is the fabric for you...bright, colorful, cheerful....I have made a small lap quilt using one layer cake and some purple texture for border fabric. The pattern is called Dessert Time....
This fabric is so cute with all things sewing related....it would make cute bags, quilts, curtains, pin cushions, sewing machine covers....the perfect fabric to make that special sewing friend something wonderful (or you can always make it just for yourself...we won't tell....).
Well, that's all for this update on what's new down at the Quilting Frame....please stop by and see us this weekend if you are out our way....also, be on the lookout on the blog for news regarding upcoming classes as well as.....perhaps....our Fall Sale (I do love that four letter word)!
Everyone have a safe and fun Labor Day Holiday and we hope to see you soon!

Lexington by Minck & Simpson in at the Quilting Frame
Morning All:
I know I have said this before, but it seems the older I get the shorter my weekends seem to be.....
I wanted to show everyone some samples we have been working on down at the shop made from our newest precuts, "Lexington" by Minck & Simpson. This is a beautiful line of fabrics in tones of blues, creams, and tans. We have layer cakes and charm squares available at the shop right now...we sold all the jelly rolls, but have placed an order for more and are hoping we will get these in as well. In addition, we have ordered three bolts of coordinating fabric to go with this line which we hope will be in shortly....as soon as the bolts get in we can put final borders on these three sample pieces. The pattern is one from Quilt In A Day called "Twice as Nice"....all three of these were made from one Jelly Roll (and I had three strips left over).
Also, we have the precuts for a line by Gina Martin and Moda called "Sewing Box"....anyone of us who has a friend who sews or quilts, this is the perfect line from which to make them that cute Christmas or Birthday gift....sewing notions of all descriptions in fun colors of purple, blue, orange, yellow, creams.....
We are also awaiting the arrival of a line of precuts by Blackbird Design and Moda called Autumn Lily.....this is a gorgeous line of fabrics in dusky shades of reds, pinks, sage greens, dusk blue and cappuccino browns. I will let everyone know the minute it arrives.
I sincerely hope you all have a great week, and look forward to seeing you down at the shop!

Block of the Month Club packaging errors....OOPS
Ladies:
I apologize, but when we were labeling the baggies your BOM kits come in, I just realized this morning that they were labeled as being for the "Farmer's Daughter" block, when in actuality it is the "Broken Wheel" block we are doing this month. I apologize for the error. If any of you have already started on this block as the Farmer's Daughter, just come down to the shop and we will give you new fabric for the Broken Wheel block.
Everyone have a fabulous week!

Happenings down at the Quilting Frame
Hello Everyone!
I hope everyone survived Monday....the older I get the harder those Monday's seem to be.....
We have some new things at the shop and I wanted to give everyone a heads up:
For the last several months, we have had an umbrella quilt on display at the shop. Everyone has had positive things to say about the quilt, and boy do we have a short cut for those who are wanting to make it! AccuQuilt Go have made a die of this umbrella and we have it for use down at the shop.... just think no more hand cutting these babies.... you can quickly and easily cut out enough umbrella pieces to make a queen or even king sized quilt. Just apply your Heat N Bond to the wrong side of the fabric and then place the fabric pieces in the cutter and you are off to the races. What would have taken many hours is now cut down to a minimal amount. Margaret has made an umbrella quilt out of some gorgeous Asian inspired fabric, and she had just enough left to make one kit. All of the umbrella's in this kit are already on background squares, but you will need to actually stitch the appliques down.
We laid out a portion of this quilt so I could take pictures to put here for you all to see. There will only be one kit made as this is all the extra fabric Margaret had, but it will be gorgeous for whoever chooses to complete this quilt. As usual, if you have your own fabric and Heat N Bond or Steam A Seam, you are welcome to come to the shop and just use the cutter. The cost per layer is .50, so to do 40 would be $20.00.
We also wanted everyone to know this will be the last week we will have the quilts in house from the ladies at Quilt in A Day....if you are wanting to see them, you need to stop by the shop soon. I have taken several pictures for those who can't make it by the shop to take a peek.
The Lavender Hill Farm quilt was made by Eleanor Burns sister, and is very detailed with many fussy cuts....gorgeous in shades of lavender and green. We have the one made by Eleanor Burns and is features in the book we are using, as well as two smaller quilts, one shown above using the Harvest Star pattern and a quilt using the block of the month patterns in the 6" format.
Last, but definitely not least, I wanted to remind all our Block of the Month participants that the blocks will be ready for pick up Saturday....stop by when you get a chance...if you have any questions please stop by and we will be more than happy to help you! You can also email us and we will try to help you in that format as best we can.
Also, we have received the first of our new lines of precuts, called Sewing Box by Gina Martin for Moda fabric. These are just fun colors showing everything from needles, pincushions, zippers, snaps, thread spools in colors ranging from white to bright blue, green, purple, orange.....we are working on a small display quilt for the shop and I will post pictures as soon as it is finished....what could be cuter for sewing fanatics such as ourselves. We will have two more lines coming in within the next month, Autumn Lilly and Lexington.
Everyone have a safe and fun week.....
Take Care!

New Precuts
Hello All:
I hope everyone has managed to stay somewhat cool in this weather....I went out at lunch today and it felt like a blast furnace.....I hate the fact we are supposed to have storms tonight, but it will be worth it to get rid of this heat for a few days.
I happened to look around the shop Saturday before last and realized we were running very low on those wonderful precuts I can't seem to get enough of.....so some have been ordered to be arriving over the next 3-4 months.
There is a really cute precut out right now called "Sewing Box".....it is all sewing themed fabric with buttons, zippers, pin cushions, spools of thread, etc. The colors are bright and happy shades of blue, green, brown, pink and white....I couldn't help thinking how cool it would be to make my fellow sewing friends a carry bag or shopping bags in this material.....we have ordered layer cakes and jelly rolls.
I have two other lines that are due to be out in August, Autumn Lilly and Lexington.
Lexington by Minck & Simpson - this line is in shades of dark and medium blues, ivory and creamy tans from light to dark - very beautiful...when I see those shades I always think of men in general who can't seem to get enough of the color blue...there will be layer cakes, jelly rolls and charm squares.
Autumn Lily by Blackbird Designs - this is a beautiful line of fabric in shades of red, raspberry, sage greens, tans and creams....we have ordered layer cakes & jelly rolls.
In September, we have on order a line called Somerset by Fig Tree & Co....this line of fabric comes in shades of chocolate, citron, rich strawberry red, coffee and light dove gray....we have ordered layer cakes & jelly rolls.
In October, we have ordered two lines of precuts - Rambling Rose and Best Day Ever:
Rambling Rose by Sandy Gervais is a line full of beautiful fabrics in muted shades of aqua, old rose, luscious reds, darker sage greens, blacks and browns in small prints and tones...there will be layer cakes and jelly rolls.
Best Day Every by April Rosenthal of Prairie Grass Patterns - this is for those who like bright and cheerful with lots of primary colors and fun patterns - colors in this include apple red, navy blues, orange, grass green and sunshine yellow....there will be layer cakes and jelly rolls
Finally, in November we have ordered a line of precuts called Crazy for Reds by Minck & Simpson, the same company who brought us Midwinter Reds last year....this is a gorgeous line in rich reds, coffee browns and tans along with creams....there will be layer cakes and jelly rolls.
As always, our precuts are always marked down 10% before they hit our shelves....the layer cakes and jelly rolls will both be $34.95 each......stop by over the next few months and see what wonderful fabrics these are....
Everyone have a great week....try to stay cool, dry and safe and we'll see you next time your down our way!

Quilt Blocks on American Barns Block of the Month Club Part II
Morning Everyone!
First off, let me apologize for not being able to get these pictures posted yesterday. I was having technical issues with my computer and my computer guru (i.e. my hubby) was with his father (the nerve!) on Father's Day. Seriously, though, I apologize for not getting this up faster but without further ado, here are the much anticipated pictures:
This quilt is also up on the wall at the shop if you want to stop by and take a look in person. It truly is a very pretty, cheerful quilt. We used lots of primary colors mirroring the colors from the pattern book as well as using lots of blenders and a few small scale prints. The blocks ranged from fairly easy to more challenging, and both Sandra and I learned a lot making the North Star block and the Harvest Star block.
Okay, here are the finalized details: the sign up fee is $40 per person, $30 of which you will get back in the form of a gift certificate when you make it to the end of the club (we had 90% the last time which was fantastic). The cost of the blocks per month is $25 + tax, same as last time. You will receive two blocks per month for the price of $25 + tax. The club will last 10 months. The kick off gathering will be on Saturday, June 28th at 9:00 a.m. There will be food, drinks and gifts for all those who choose to participate. We will discuss future meeting dates and times at our initial meeting, as there are two or three blocks which Sandra and I feel may warrant some additional discussion in order to make your quilt piecing successful and stress free. The only additional items you may wish to purchase are three rulers we didn't use on our last Block of the Month quilt, the Kaleidoscope ruler , a rectangle ruler and the triangle in a square ruler set. Sandra and I tried to use a Kaleidoscope ruler we already had but the North Star block didn't turn out correct until we used the one from Quilt In A Day.
The embellishments we used on each barn block were pulled from our stash (i.e. farm animals, dogs, cats, people, etc). We have a few fabrics from which we were going to allow everyone to cut out pieces if they so choose to embellish their quilts, and of course as it is your quilt, personalizing each barn block to your taste is part of the fun of this quilt.
We already have 5 or 6 people who have shown definitive interest in participating in this club. If you are interested and have not yet told us, please call the shop at 931-682-3746 and let us put your name down on our list, or you can email us at thequiltingframe@gmail.com and let us know you are wishing to participate. We want to be sure we have enough books and gifts for all those who are choosing to participate so please let us know as soon as possible. If you wish to participate but do not wish to come to the shop every month due to distance or circumstance, we would be willing to hold your credit card number and mail these blocks to you with an additional charge to cover shipping (we will choose the most economical shipping method available to keep costs down).
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at the phone number or email above. I can't wait to kick this club off so I can start on my own version of this quilt.
Everyone, have a safe week, try to stay cool and hopefully I will see you on the 28th of June!
Take Care!
Melissa

Take Care!

Beginner's Quilting Class
Afternoon All:
Just a quick note to everyone regarding our Beginner's Quilting Class scheduled to begin this Saturday, June 14th. Due to lack of interest, the class will not be happening. If we get enough interest at a later time, the class will be rescheduled.
Sandra, Margaret and I are working on completing the quilt top for our Block of the Month club. We hopefully will have it finished by the weekend and I will post pictures on this blog as soon as I can. We have had several people show definite interest and others who I think are waiting to see the final product. I promise, this quilt is a fun project that will enhance and enlarge your quilting knowledge and give you many opportunities to personalize it to you tastes.
Please let us know as soon as you do if you are interested in participating in the club. We will have a start up party on Saturday June 28th with some nibbles and beverages as well as some free gifts for our club participants. We hope you will come join us!
The sign up cost is $40 per person, $30 of which you will get back in the form of a gift certificate if you make it all the way to the end (last year, our completion rate was 90%). The per month cost is $25 + tax per month and the club will run 11 months.
Everyone have a safe week and lets all try to stay dry and safe in this crazy spring weather we have been having!
Take Care!

Quick Note
Morning Everyone!
We are in the last two days of our fabric sale, which will end when we close Saturday afternoon. If you haven't had a chance to stop by, there are still some great fabric, patterns, notions and kits available at excellent prices.
If you are interested in our Beginner's Quilt Class, please let us know by Monday June 9th at 5:00 p.m. If we don't have three people signed up by that time, the class will be cancelled. Times, dates, price and supplies are all listed in the last post. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call at 931-682-3746.
We are working feverishly to get the quilt ready for our new Block of the Month club. I have posted previously pictures of two of the barn blocks in our Quilt Blocks on American Barns quilt. We are in the home stretch and hope to start putting the quilt top together by next week! If you haven't been by to see the quilt blocks we have prepared, stop by when you can. Please let us know as soon as you can if you are interested in joining our Block of the Month club. Cost and further details are available in the last post I made. If you have any further questions, again, please give the shop a call at your earliest convenience and we will help you all we can.
I have made several of the blocks for this quilt, and it has been fun. I have made blocks I haven't made previously, some of which are not difficult and some of which have been quite challenging. There are also 3" blocks on each of the barn blocks, which was my first attempt at making what I would call miniature blocks. Piecing this quilt has been a fun learning experience for me and I have so many ideas for the quilt I am making right along with everyone in the Block of the Month
club. Come join us!
Everyone take care and have a wonderful and fun weekend.
Melissa
P.S. I wanted to give a quick shout out to the ladies from the sewing group from Dickson who stopped by the shop on Memorial Day. It was great to meet you all, and we hope to see you again very soon!

Beginner's Quilt Making Class
Hello All:
We have had several people asking if we were going to have a Beginner's Quilt class. Well, we are! The dates for the class are as follows (all classes will be on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.):
June 14th
June 21st
July 12th
July 19th
July 26th
August 9th
August 16th
August 23rd
September 6th
We will be making nine different quilt blocks during the 9 weeks of class. We will also discuss the basics of making quilts and how to finish the quilt top with border(s). When the class is done and if you do the blocks each week, you will have a completed quilt top in about 10 weeks. The cost of the 9 week class is $100.00. You will be required to pay the class fee when you sign up for the class.
You will need basic sewing supplies for this class including a sewing machine (a quarter-inch foot will help immeasurably if you are new to sewing); scissors, pins, rotary cutter, a 6 x 24 grid ruler and a 12" square up ruler, neutral thread for sewing (match to your fabric or an eggshell or natural will work). You need to know how to operate your sewing machine (we are familiar with several but not all types of sewing machines). This includes how to wind and load a bobbin, how to use the needle threader, how to thread the machine, etc. You can generally buy the quarter inch foot for any sewing machine available today from a dealer and it usually will cost approximately $15-30.
Choosing fabrics for your quilt top begins the creative side of the art we will be learning. I tell all my students to pick the color they love and go with it. There are so many different choices and styles of fabric available now so the sky really is the limit. I would suggest picking a multi-colored fabric for the outside border and then choose colors that will coordinate. You can use several different shades and values of the same color to give continuity and fluidity to the pieced blocks. Usually, 3-4 different color groups that blend will give you a nice variety of color to play with when piecing the blocks. I would suggest 8-10 half yards of coordinating fabric so you have lots of variety, about 3/4 of a yard of a neutral for a first border and then about 1-1/2 yards of fabric for the outside border. If you are in a time crunch or are very uncertain regarding fabric choices, we can coordinate some fabric for you to purchase in a kit and this will, of course, be discounted the 10%. When you sign up, you need to let us know if you want us to pick out your fabrics.
All supplies purchased at the shop will be discounted 10%, including rulers, fabric, etc. If you want help or suggestions for fabric colors or coordination, just stop by the shop and we will be glad to help you any way we can. We can only sit five people in our classroom, so as soon as you know you want to sign up, call the shop at (931) 682-3746 or stop by the next time you are in the area. If we have more than five people who want to take a beginner's class, we will do an afternoon session from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at thequiltingframe@gmail.com and we will answer you back as quick as we can.
Everyone have a safe and fun Memorial Day Holiday weekend!

Here's A Sneak Peek of the BOM Blocks
Hello All!
Sandra, Margaret and I are hard at work on the new Block of the Month Quilt. Here are pictures of two of the Barn Blocks that will be in the quilt (i.e. - remember you can embellish your blocks however you want - the animals / peoples that are on these blocks are some that we have in our stash - we have purchased a fat quarter each for everyone who joins the club of cows and a fat quarter of pigs....but you can add whatever makes you happy):
When we contacted Quilt In A Day to order the books, we were able to borrow 2 or 3 of their versions of this quilt to display in the shop for this Block of the Month Club. The dates we will have their versions on loan will be June 23rd through July 28th. That will give us lots of options to enjoy while we get started on this fun Block of the Month pattern.
The cost of the Quilt Blocks on American Barns Block of the Month will be as follows: $40 per person sign up fee; $25 + tax each month for the block(s) - i.e. some months their will be two blocks in that month which is why we set it up per month and not per block. This program will run for 11 months. If you make it all the way to the end, you will receive a $30 store gift certificate to be used as you please. We will be including a color picture of each quilt block in each month's packet so everyone will have it for reference.
We are planning to have a small party with food and drinks for everyone the first Saturday (June 28, 2014). We will also have gift bags for everyone who joins us for this fun project!
If you have any questions or want to sign up for this fun project over the phone, call the shop at (931) 682-3746. If you are not local but want to participate, we will be happy to take a credit card number to keep on file so we can ship you the block(s) every month (you will have to pay the shipping charge, but we will be as economical as possible).
I will have a list of dates for the Block of the Month available at the first meeting on the 28th of June for us all to look over.
Please come and join us for this Block of the Month project. It's going to be lots of fun, and we will always be available to assist anyone with any questions. If you know you want to join us, sign up as soon as you are able so we can be sure we have plenty of books for our first meeting. I can't wait to see all of you and I can't wait to get started on my version!
Everyone take care and have a wonderful week!

New Fabric and Upcoming Sale
Hello Again All:
We wanted to let everyone know that we did indeed go fabric shopping this past Sunday. We found some really pretty new spring colored fabrics we haven't previously carried in the shop as well as purchasing all the fabrics we will need for our upcoming Block of the Month. Now that we have the fabric for the Block of the Month, we will begin piecing the quilt top so everyone has a chance to see how beautiful and fun this quilt will be to piece. We will be getting all the cost information together as quickly as possible so everyone can make an informed choice about whether they wish to come join the fun. We had ten ladies for our last Block of the Month, and I would love to have that many again.
Sandra is in the mood to have a FABRIC SALE (ooh, I just love that four letter word when it is preceded by FABRIC). It will begin on Friday, May 23rd through Memorial Day weekend and the entire next week ending on Saturday, May 31st. All of our fabrics will be 20% off except for our newly acquired material which will be clearly marked as "not on sale". If you buy what's left on a sale bolt, we will give you 25% off of that fabric. All quilt kits, Moda precuts, notions, patterns and pattern books will be marked off 10%. As usual, the batting and quilting services are not included in the sale. There will be some extra special discounts on certain items that will be clearly marked.
I am working on some upcoming classes for our clients, and am very interested in hearing from you if you have a particular class you are interested in taking. I will also be scheduling a Beginner's Quilting Class during the summer. I am considering making the classes for a longer time period so people don't feel rushed and have plenty of time to try the techniques and ask all the questions they need. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Hope you all have a good rest of the week, and I'll see you soon down at the Shop.
Melissa

Hello Again Everyone:
Having just emerged from the cocoon I call Tax Season, it was nice to find that the world still turns and I don't turn into a bat if I stick my head out in the daytime. I mean to tell ya'll what, 13-15 hours a day for several weeks on end is enough to make you feel like a bat.
I was so excited to get to the shop last Saturday and see what had been going on while I was acting like a mushroom. It is amazing how much creative energy you get just being around others who enjoy the same avocation as you.
Sandra has been fielding questions from a few of our clients regarding if we were going to do another Block of the Month club this year. We were very excited at the end of last year to realize that nine of the ten ladies who signed up had picked up all their blocks and were the happy recipients of their $30 gift certificate. The even better news is that the 10th lady had not been well but has been in to see Sandra and hopefully will be able to finish it sometime this year. Being our first Block of the Month club, it was a learning process for Sandra and I, and we will certainly take all your suggestions to heart.
Since most everyone bought at least some of the specialty rulers for our last Block of the Month, we want to be sure you are going to get your money's worth out of them. We have decided to do another Eleanor Burns Block of the Month. This one is called , "Quilt Blocks on American Barns". It is a 70" square quilt, has five different barn blocks and eight additional pieced blocks. I haven't seen anything like it recently, and neither had Sandra. The quilt is based on Eleanor Burn's travels around the country on "Quilt Barn Tours"; looking at the different quilt blocks people had painted on their barns. Of course, our barn blocks will also have miniature quilt blocks to replicate these barns from real life. It is going to be a lot of fun, and certainly something different for most of us.
The primary colors in the quilt are going to be red, white and blue, with green, yellow and white accent fabrics and a little black. We are going fabric shopping this Sunday, and will hopefully be able to acquire all the fabrics we need to begin piecing our store version of the quilt. Since the colors are very patriotic, we would love to start this Block of the Month club around the 4th of July. The sign up fee will be the same, $40 per person. Again, if you make it to the end, we will give you a $30 store gift certificate to use on whatever you wish. We will provide you with a cost per month just as soon as we are able. In addition, I will start posting pictures as soon as we get some of the blocks completed.
I am so excited at the opportunity to renew old acquaintances after my tax enforced sabbatical. I hope you have all been well and are enjoying this lovely spring weather. For anyone who is interested, my version of the Tales of the First Ladies Block of the Month quilt is hanging up at the shop. I did it in pastel shades and the centerpiece is totally different from the book. I will post a picture as soon as I can remember to take one....
You all have a fabulous rest of the week, and I'll be posting more information soon.
Take care!
